Learning Graphic Design

1st page layout

The Thursday, December 8, 2005 edition of San Jose State University's Spartan Daily was the last issue of the Fall 2005 semester. It was also my first issue as a production editor, laying out the news pages, a job that I will hold during the Spring 2006 semester.

I have had mixed responses about my decision to spend a semester doing graphic design. Some have encouraged my choice, viewing it as adding to my skill set in a time when jobs for photography are continually shrinking. Others question why I am not solely sticking to photography if that is my focus and passion.

I tend to agree with the former, as I am always trying to add to my skills in areas that may be relevant to journalism, be it web design, video, blogging/writing, graphic design, or photography.
